Here’s what happened…

We had an image (courtesy of John Bavaro) divvied up into 48 squares. Each piece of the image was distributed to artists as they arrived early morning day 2.  Artists were given 50 minutes to do their own interpretation of their piece of the square–staying true to the overall composition–and then email it back. Each frame was then pieced back together in Adobe Illustrator.

Now, we didn’t receive ALL of the images back from all of the artists–so we had to improvise a little.  The results are two–we have a couple variations due to timing and receipt of images. To get a better look (or to find your work within the overall piece–click the image!

Many thanks to Adobe Ideas and Fabric Lenny for hosting such a creative and collaborative “wake up” session with the group (and for all the help with deconstructing and then recompiling the image, too!) Also thanks to ALL of the artists who were so open and willing to participate in this warm-up activity–which surely got things moving for the remainder of the day.

We hope this exercise got you all familiar with a new app and new ways in which we can all come together creatively.  (Let’s keep that up!:-)

During the Mobile Art Conference the 24 Frames 24 Hours mobile filmmaking workshop took place at the ITP Tisch School of the Arts at NYU (New York University). The mobile video was produced in 24 hrs collaboratively by the workshop participants. All material was filmed and post-produced on mobile devices and tablets. The assembling of the material was conducted a week later following the feedback during the second workshop session. Whoop! Whoop!

This MobileArtCon 2011 weekend was really awesome! Thanks to all of the artists who traveled near and far to attend our 2nd annual international gathering of art, love and collaboration! Lots of new works, thoughts and ideas. Tons of spontaneous collaborations. Some short and sweet, some ongoing.

We’ll be debriefing with all over the next couple of weeks. There’s much to show and tell.

For now, check out our SOCIAL FEEDS page to see footage, photos and artwork from this year’s conference. There were some great workshops that we were able to capture and feed to UStream. We also have a Flickr group with pics being posted daily.

Which reminds me, time to clear out my own phone!  BE SURE TO POST YOURS TOO! (and make sure you detail where they’re from. We’ll be sorting things out “this photo is from this workshop…this one is from here…hmmm…where is this one from?” so help us out and let us know!

FOR PROJECTS–and this is important! Here is the skinny:

Anyone needing to send images from the Adobe Ideas Warm-Up we started on Day 2, please mail them to mobileartcon@gmail.com. Use the Image Number (in the original email sent to you, there was an assigned image #) as your subject and then attach the repainted/treated photograph. We will need your submissions by Friday of this week, as we will be forwarding to Adobe to piece the images together into one big MOSAIC!

If you did not receive a segment and want to participate, email mobileartcon@gmail.com (SUBJECT: Adobe Ideas Warm-up) as we still have a few photos that we can forward. (not too late!

If you attended MobileArtCon 2011 and have footage to submit for Max Schleser’s “24 Frames 24 Hours” project, join the video group and upload your work.

If you are still working on (or wish to join) Matt Connor’s BookMOBILE project, you should post your email to the BookMOBILE group’s discussion thread on FLICKR. That will give you access to the Dropbox folder and keep you in the loop throughout the project.

Adobe Ideas will join us in hosting a full scale MobileArtCon group collaboration (all hands–errr…fingers on deck!) The morning warm-up is inspired by this year’s MobileArtCon Poster and the woven works of Fabric Lenny and Jonathan Grauel.  (see Day 1 Opening) 

Ok, ok…here’s a hint: Think group mash… errr…mesh…errr…mosaic…or…something.  Or just COME and wing it with us (gotta be brave in art, right? Plus we’re all in it TOGETHER!)

We’ll be launching this group collab at 10am, so we’re asking all attendees to try to make it in about 15 minutes earlier to “check in” for the session. We’ll have to email ya a little somethin’ somethin’ for you to get started.

Our opening warm-up session is sure to get the creative juices flowing for the rest of the day!  (And sure to turn out a pretty fabulous piece of art too!)

Session starts at 10am. Try to arrive a little earlier so that we can email you your piece of the puzzle.  Session will be facilitated by Fabric Lenny and hosted by MobileArtCon Partners, Adobe Ideas.

MOBILEARTCON OPENING SESSION: October 1, 2011, 10AM

What better way to open MobileArtCon 2011, than to showcase what can come of true creativity, mobility and collaboration.  (And give you pretty good idea about the inspiration behind this year’s MAC 2011 Artwork, did ya notice?!)

On October 1st, artists Jonathan Grauel (USA) and Fabric Lenny (UK) will kick off this year’s MobileArtCon with an Opening Talk about their shared creative series, “Woven Narratives”.

This opening talk will cover the collaborative journey and meanderings of the two artists (who only met a year ago at MobileArtCon 2010   as they strive to unearth a hidden aesthetic. Over the past year they have developed an organic working partnership which has spawned a plethora of rich images across a variety of mediums. The duo will provide a sneak peek behind their creative curtain and will share the positives and pitfalls of the collaborative process. Along with a few treats developed specifically for the conference, this session will provide an insight into the workings of a process which is constantly evolving and feeding there individual creative practice.

Talk begins at 10am–Day 1–MobileArtCon–Kicks off! Whoop!

“Artrage Studio???? What in da…?????”, you say?

Max Schleser, mobile filmmaker, educator and founder of  FILMOBILE, joins us all the way from New Zealand to share his experiences with using mobile digital media to produce film.  He will be screening some of his work, sharing ideas and techniques (that even go beyond touchscreen media–yes, he’s been doing it that long!) Participants will have an opportunity to join “24 Frames 24 Hours” a global city film and experiment in cinematic communication, capturing footage of their experiences in NYC throughout day 1 of the conference and regrouping on Day 2 to share video/photo footage, edit and produce your own 2 minute NYC/MobileArtCon film. All finished works are invited to join a global collection of “24 Frames 24 Hours” footage.
